Antique Mahogany Extending Dining Table
Offered for sale is this superb Victorian mahogany telescopic dining table extending from 60"" x 54" to 106" x 54" with three leaves, a comfortable 10 - 12 seater. The rectangular shaped top has a double moulded edge with rounded corners above substantial cabriole supports with carved knees and shoulders and scroll feet on original brass castors. The extending mechanism is extremely robust making the table very stable with a Samuel Hawkins patented mechanical winder. Samuel Hawkins first produced mechanical winders in 1846 and filed a patent in 1861 before his business was taken over by Joseph Fitter in 1864 dating the table to c - 1860. Unusually when fully closed the table has a small leaf inserted and winds out to take a further two leaves. The table is of superb quality and has been cleaned and sympathetically repolished whilst retaining its original character. It is in excellent showroom condition and it is a warm rich mellow mahogany colour.
