Antique Georgian Rosewood Canterbury Music Stand Canterbury %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
The canterbury was developed in the late 18th century in England to hold sheet music (reputedly taking its name from the Archbishop of Canterbury, who commissioned one). This fine rosewood example, dating from the early 19th century, is of classic design. Standing on 4 turned feet with original brass castors, and with a central handle, it is an easily portable item. The 4 compartments have dividing strips and square section gallery, so music/magazines are held neatly. Below is a single drawer, its knob turned from rosewood. The quality of rosewood antique furniture from this period is often exceptional, and this little canterbury, in lovely condition and with its original surface (rosewood does not like being re-polished!) is one such piece.A treat to use, not only for music but magazines and newspapers.
