Antique Dutch Pocket Watch, c1730

Hendrik Van Voost
De Ryp, Holland, c1730
Silver engraved pair cases, 57 mm.
Calendar verge
An early Dutch calendar verge with silver champleve dial, in engraved silver pair cases.
MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, the engraved and pierced balance bridge. Four square pillars and a silver regulator disk. Signed “Hendk. Van Voost in De Ryp”. In good condition and running (including the calendar work).
DIAL : Silver champleve calendar dial, in very good condition. Signed “Voost in De Ryp” on the central disc. Later gold coloured hands.
INNER CASE : Silver, with maker's mark H under a crown, and a Dutch tax mark (crowned “V”).
Original stem and heavy plain bow, with English lion passant mark.
In excellent condition, though a second hole exists with the winding hole. The hinge and the high dome bull's eye crystal are fine and the bezel closes correctly.
OUTER CASE : Silver pair case with beautifully engraved foliage borders to the bezel and rim, and a classical scene on the back. Again with no hallmarks and matching maker's mark to the inner.
The square hinge and catch are fine and the case closes correctly. All in very good condition.
Hendrik Van Voost is listed in Holland around 1730.
De Rijp is a village and former island in the Dutch province of North Holland.
The cases match and the movement fits within the inner case perfectly, but the cases may not be original to the movement as there is a second hole to the inner. However the cases are of the same period as the movement. The tax mark stamped on the inner case was used in Holland between 1814 and 1893 for imported or unmarked objects, but also added to objects as a tax free census mark. The mark is very heavily stamped, unlike the maker's mark, and was certainly added at this later date.
Free worldwide postage.
Payments by cheque, bank transfer, credit & debit cards and Paypal accepted.
