Antique Colonial hardwood merchants chest
Here we have this 19thc hardwood trunk that would have been used to transport valuables along the trading routes in the East.
These were made of a very strong construction to help protect the contents on the long arduos sea and land journies.
Having brass straps to the corners makes it very decorative as well as giving the trunk duability.
These make the most wonderful coffee antique tables.
Imagine the conversation with your frends an family as you imagine what has been trasported inside and the adventures it has been part of in its life.
The lid lifts on hingses to reveal a large storage area and a compartment with its own lid to one end.
The box is finished all around and so can be sat in the middle of the room.
You will not find another like this elsewhere, it is a one off made item for the merchant in the day.
