This is an antique bureau bookcase, an English, late Georgian, mahogany writing desk c.1800.
A very fine bureau bookcase in flame mahogany displaying good colour and grain interest
Featuring good proportions, useful storage, generous workspace and secret drawers
A pair of 14 pane astragal glazed doors sit beneath a well figured frieze
Elaborate, pierced bronzed lock escutcheons topped with spread eagles
Working lock and key opening doors to reveal a pair of adjustable shelves
The fall with working lock and key through moulded asymmetric lock escutcheon
Superb grain detail and a frame of roped inlay in boxwood and ebony
Opening to reveal a generous workspace at a comfortable height
A professionally fitted, fine suede writing surface
Triple arched cubbies complemented by a suite of five drawers to each side
Dressed with circular bronzed pulls featuring lion masks
A central cupboard with faux document slides, lock and key not operational
A push catch within the cupboard releases the whole section
Completely withdraws to access secret drawers behind
Beneath a suite of cock-beaded, graduated drawers arranged '3 over 3'
