Antique Author's Chest, English, Secretaire c1780
This is an antique author's chest. An English, flame mahogany breakfront secretaire cabinet, dating to the Georgian period, circa 1780.
Beautifully alluring cabinetry, with superb colour and of useful proportion
Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order
Select flame stocks present fine grain interest
Rich caramel hues beam beneath a quality wax polish finish
Graced with a narrow proportion, perfect for a nook or alcove
Appointed with purpose, offering a display shelf, writing skiver and drawers
Gallery rail to the top, adorned with small brass finials
Glazed book shelf upper, with adjustable shelves
Double-fronted upper drawer with drop fascia to reveal the secretaire function
Beautifully aged inset crimson leather skiver ahead of a bank of drawers and compartments
Each fascia dressed with a pair of brass drop handles
Working locks throughout, supplied with two keys for the upper and lower section
