Ancient Roman terracotta bust of a Lady.
A Roman hollow terracotta bust of a lady on a concave truncated conical base. She is wearing braids pulled back in elaborate coiffure of the third century as typified by the empress, Plautilla. Circular firing hole to reverse.
North Africa: Circa end of the 2nd to early 3rd century AD.
Fine condition with several professional repairs and slight damage to nose.
Height 17.7 cms (7 ins).
Provenance: Madame Suzanne Gozlan then by descent.
Mrs. Suzanne Gozlan (1921-2022), Doctor in History and Archaeology, professor at the Ecole Normale d'Instituteurs de Chartres and lecturer at the University of Paris 4 Sorbonne.
