An English Oak Boarded Chest c.1640 Coffer Oak Gothic
An English Oak Boarded Chest with Original Gothic Trefoil and Carved Tracery c. 1640 - a most attractive plank chest of small proportions.

Retains original lid, lock, lock-plate, hinges and wonderful hand carved trefoil and gothic tracery to the front panel. The lid with thumbnail edge and the chest is retains original hand made iron nail fixings.

Bottom boards are replacements, the chest has been re-polished probably in the 19th century and has some small braces added below the top. All else appears complete and original, carving certainly original.

Charming and rare to find a planked chest with carving in this form and it is a very practical and useable example with a lovely colour.
