A rare and elegant American 18th Century Federal period painted faux Rosewood Bachelors Chest with the original finish, dating from c 1790 and in naturally distressed condition. The rectangular top over brushing slide and four long drawers with brass oval handles and supported on slender bracket feet. Consistent with the place of manufacture ( New England) various local timbers were used in the construction.The top is solid Cherrywood, the sides pine, drawer fronts thick hand cut cherry veneer, drawer bases pine and drawer sides solid cherry. The whole chest has been painted in simulated Rosewood with line painted decorative detail. Excellent condition with natural worn patination with fading, wear to the paint and various minor chips and scratches consistent with age and use. Payments can be made via bank transfer.
