A Pembrokeshire teak stool. A teak Pembrokeshire 3 legged %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
In the nineteenth century and early 20th teak was bought back in some sailing ships as ballast if the cargoes were light. In Pembrokeshire small workshops made full use of it, turning it into a wide range of antique furniture. I have had various different things from kitchen antique tables to small cabinets and a couple of pieces signed and dated, completely right for the period in question. This stool was covered in the dirt and dust of many years so I thought no more about it and put it aside with everything else for "one day". One day arrived and I cleaned it up and to my amazement it had been completely machine finished and then nothing, as though it had been hidden and forgotten. Part of the apparent dirt and finish was hair, the standing grain of the wood after machining and rubbing down showed that it had never been finished, no surface had ever been applied to the stool. In effect we have here a brand new stool that's already an antique made anywhere between 1880 and 1920. It's most unlikely to have been made any later and it's certainly not shed work. A possibly unique piece.
