A gents 1970s Sicura Submarine diver’s watch.
Joh. Gobber Horologerie was established in 1939, and the name was subsequently changed to Sicura, Joh. Gobber in 1951 and then Montres Sicura SA in 1955. When the owner of the company, Théodore Sfaellos, died in the early 1960s, the running of the company was taken over by his son-in-law Ernest Frédéric Schneider, a former Swiss Army Officer. Ernest Schneider became the driving force behind Sicura’s growth with the aim of making affordable watches that followed the latest trends.
This particular watch has an EB 8021N hand-winding movement, 23 jewels, which is working well and keeping good time to within around two minutes or so over 24 hours.
The watch measures 35.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is plated and there is quite a lot of wear, particularly to the back of the watch. The rotating bezel is bi-directional, there is marking and wear to the finish on the bezel.
The lens is in good order.
The signed dial has some marking which is visible if viewed closely but it looks good to the naked eye. The dial states that the watch is, ‘super waterproof, 200, vacuum tested’ but as it is a vintage watch and we do not know its full history, it should be kept away from water.
A later strap has been fitted. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
