A gents 1950s Rewel chronograph.

The chronograph has a Landeron 48 hand-winding movement which is working well.

Landeron started production of the ‘48 series’ in 1937 and they went on to become some of the most popular movements that Landeron produced. Subsequent revisions to the design resulted in the 148 and 248 calibres. Production of the 48 series stopped in 1970 after producing 3.5 million units and the Landeron name disappeared soon afterwards.

The watch measures 37mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the buttons. The case is plated with a stainless steel snap-on case back. There is a little marking to the case but overall the condition is good.

The lens is in good condition.

The signed dial is in its original finish… there are two indentations, one between 4 and 5 and a slight one between 7 and 8. The dial has two subsidiary dials, one for constant seconds and the other to record up to 45 minutes.

In the 1940s and 1950s, quirky features were sometimes found on watches, such as parking meter watches, and this chronograph also has a quirky feature. On the right hand sub dial, there are large markers at three, six and nine minutes. These were aimed at the business man who made international telephone calls which were very expensive at the time. The calls were rounded to chargeable chunks of three minutes and so watchmaking companies came up with this scale to help people control their talking duration.

The chronograph feature is operated by pressing the to button to start and the bottom button to stop and then re-set.

A new leather strap has been fitted.
