A Fine And Rare Henry VIII Boarded Chest

Constructed in the first quarter of the 16th century ,the lid with a double reeded edge and carved rope twist to each end .

The front and back board also with a double reeded edge ,the side supports which narrow in the middle and then flare out with V-cutouts ,the hour glass effect is a design rarely seen .

Retaining its original height and strap hinges and lockplate with pinched corners.

The facing front left hand top corner has a small cut out which out lines two fingers which II feel has been done to make it easy to lift the lid ? what ever they are for is intriguing as they have been done for a specific reason

Good dark colour and a cracking patina and glass like surface.
