25 Drawer Oak Haberdashery Shop Counter Cabinet
CODE 0176
DESCRIPTION:
This is a super example of a shop haberdashery counter by the makers Samuel Elliott & Sons Reading Ltd expert shop fitters. The counter dates from the 1950s. The counter is of brass and mahogany framing set off against the 15 Oak fronted graduating drawers which also have oak side and brass pull handles. The brass handles do have some bruising due to use and age but because they pick up reflection this is not so noticeable really unless close inspection is made. The counter has 4 oak sliding doors to the rear that allow access to a glass display shelf above the drawers which is in two halves to allow ease of removal for transportation etc. The doors have an inner beading visible from the front which tells of the quality of the piece. The counter has had a new laminated glass top fitted the top is separated with a brass strip down the centre and has its brass yard rule. The counter stands on tapering legs with brass adjustable feet. A stunning counter/cabinet that will lend itself to many setting both commercial as well as domsestic.
DIMENSIONS:
H865mm W1835mm D600mm
Clearance on glass shelf H280mm
Drawer sizes H100mm W325mm Top drawer D420mm to Bottom drawer D510mm.
WORKSHOP REPORT:
This cabinet has all its little bumps and bruises the outcome of years of use and practicality these are to be accepted and embraced as part and parcel of the history and character of the piece. The counter has had a new laminated glass top fitted, there is a couple of nibbles on one drawer front on opposite corners didn’t feel required any attention. The brass cup handles do have some dents and bruises but due to the reflection caught in the brass it tends to cancel these out a bit.
