19th Century Country Elm Trunk. Box Chest
Height: 52 centimetres
Width: 73 centimetres
Depth: 47 centimetres
Description
This is a charming country elm trunk. It has a dummy front to appear like drawers and interesting curved bracket feet. It would date to the early 19th Century.
It is country made with a selection of native timbers - the main wood is elm to the top and sides, with satin beech for the front. The base mouldings are pine and the feet are beech. It is original throughout and built with a high standard of craftsmanship. The sides are joined with fine, through cut dovetail joints.
The iron strap hinges and lock and keeper are all original.
A hessian webbing strap has been applied to protect the hinges and allow the lid to hold in an open position.
The handles are later replacements
Wonderful deep golden colour.
Excellent condition throughout.
