A fine quality mid 19th Century well-figured satinwood and marquetry pedestal desk. Marquetry boxwood, rosewood & ebony line inlaid and satinwood throughout, having brass galleried top, shaped green tooled leather writing surface. The Desk, finished to the rear, bow fronted central drawer flanked by four graduating mahogany lined drawers to each side with their original carved brass handles, all supported on square tapering legs ending on original brass castors. Gillows of Lancaster and London, also known as Gillow & Co., was an English furniture making firm based in Lancaster, Lancashire, and in London. It was founded in Lancaster in circa 1730 by Robert Gillow.
