A Fine 1940s French Bureau Plat or Writing Table in Mahogany with Finely Tooled Leather Insert.

Conceived in the Louis XVI style, this fine bureau plat was made in the neoclassical manner with simple lines and high quality fittings and materials providing the majority of the decorative interest. The table features ormolu mounts around the edge of the top, the corners, drawer fronts and tops of the legs but, thanks to the exceptional quality and colour of the mahogany, the piece never seems to be ostentatious in any way.

This piece would have been produced by one of the great makers of antique furniture in the antique style in France during this period such as Carlhian and it is clear that no expense was spared in producing it. It stands beautifully thanks to its fine proportions.
