Large 18th.c. Welsh oak coffer from South Wales (Carmarthen or Glamorgan) area c.1740. Particularly attractive example of the form with 12 raised and fielded panels across the front and three further panels to each side. Flat (rather than panelled) lid made of two oak boards with applied mouldings, shaped brackets to the front feet. Excellent condition with original floor and backboards. Lovely colour and patina.
