A charming early 18th Century oak and walnut chest of two short drawers over three graduated long drawers, all cross banded.
This English chest has an oak moulded top and oak sides which contrast well with the beautifully figured walnut. Dating from the reign of Queen Anne, the chest is constructed in two pieces, this design is typical of chests of drawers of this period. The condition is good, the drawers run smoothly and the chest stands firmly on later bracket feet. The handles, which are very decorative are original on all but the bottom drawer, these have obviously been on for quite some time and match well. There is a historic repair to the top, this has been well done and is not detrimental to the appearance of this three hundred year old chest. There is some historic papered areas to the back and base of the chest that bear sayings and mottos. More photos of the piece are available. A superb 18th Century chest of drawers that would be a striking addition to any interior.
