17th Century Wall Hanging Oak Spice Cabinet c.1680
A very good early oak spice cabinet, so useful and so well made.
In the 17th and 18th centuries spices were very expensive to buy and very valuable. They were kept under lock and key and only the wealthy could afford to buy them.
This is an English cabinet, made by hand in around 1670-1680 with a well shaped angular cornice and plinth, the original drawer with oak nailed up lining, the fielded panel door with lovely geometric applied moulding. With an early, probably original, lock and original iron escutcheon with working key. Original iron hinges and the interior with its original oak shelf.
Large and sturdy. There are later brass fittings attached to the original backboards enabling it to be easily hung on a wall.
Very solid with a really beautiful colour and original finish. A doozy!
Dimensions are:
26.5 inches wide, 15 inches deep and 27 inches high.
For metric please multiply by 2.5 I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
