12th Wedding Anniversary Gift Rare Compact 1948

12th Wedding Anniversary Gift Rare Compact 1948 12th wedding anniversary silk wedding wedding gifts %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This rare vintage Stratton powder compact has a lid made from silk and so it is an appropriate silk / 12th wedding anniversary gift. It is so rare that it would make a wonderful unique gift. The subject matter - romantic and equestrian themes make this vintage Stratton powder compact highly collectible. This thrilling book piece is extremely scarce. The silk lid is rendered to look like an oil painting on canvas. The images do not do this accessory justice. This is a book piece vanity as it is shown in 'The Stratton Identification Key'. The Stratton ' Scone without Inner Lid' has a variety of eye-catching lid decorations and only one known year of availability, which is 1948. This model is one of the most exciting Stratton compact mirrors, as they are beautifully decorated and exceptionally hard to find. The scene depicts a courting couple. They are dressed in what would have been worn by the gentry in Georgian England. The lady's richly decorated purple dress and bonnet are sumptuous and minutely detailed. On her hands she is wearing pristine white gloves. Her right hand is resting half way down the horse's mane. She is offering the horse something to eat with her left hand. The gentle nature of the horse is captured perfectly and the whole scene is one of rural tranquility. The gentleman is dressed in a beautifully tailored crimson jacket and pale yellow breeches. The stable wall is a similar pale yellow. The window frames and stable door are green. Foliage and blooms similar to lilac and ivy frame both sides of this composition. The compact is in very good condition and we are delighted to have it in our collection. The interior is exactly what one would expect to see - a shallow gilded powder well. The gilding is still vibrant. The pouch is also typical for this model - very fine felt and circular. We have found that the puffs for this model can vary tremendously. The sifter and puff are present and they are in good condition. The sifter has a pink velour edge. The puff has scalloped edges and floral motifs. The mirror gives a very good and accurate reflection. The mirror bezel is signed 'STRATTON MADE IN ENGLAND'. All clasps and hinges work perfectly. The base has an engine turned design of a fine spiral which is seen on the 'Scone' models. This 1940s compact is suitable for loose face powder. It measures 3" and weighs 64 grams. Free lavishly illustrated history of this piece included.
