We are offering for sale this lovely portrait oil on canvas by the artist Wingfield, who has signed the painting in the lower left hand corner. The painting is a bust length portrait of a lady in a turquoise dress, with a frill around the neck, wearing a turquoise coloured bonnet with a large ruched brim, adorned with an ostrich feather and tied to the side with a large bow.

There are several artist listed with the surname of Wingfield, but none whose signature, medium or style matches this one and, as we do not know the Christian name, we cannot even check genealogy sites or the census records. We did find a watercolour which had been sold at auction in recent years signed Wingfield in capital letters, which may or may not have been by the artist.

The painting is on Winsor & Newton canvas, but the address is illegible, which does not help us to date the canvas, but it is certainly early 20th Century, at the latest.

The painting has been newly framed in a silver gilt 4 3/4" frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

Medium: Oils on Winsor & Newton canvas

Condition: Very good. There are no repairs to the canvas which is clean and taut. There is a little evidence of woodworm in one of the shorter stretcher bars, so this has been treated as a precaution. The frame is new.
