William IV Mahogany Breakfront Bookcase
An impressive William IV mahogany breakfront bookcase featuring a large glazed top section
above a cupboard base. It has a moulded cornice above four arched doors with horizontal glazing bars and original glass panes. The locks on the upper doors all work and come with a key which also works the left cupboard to the base. The base centre door lock has been replaced (no key) whilst the base right door has had the lock and escutcheon removed. The top section has four adjustable shelves to each side and three to the centre and more could be made if required. The base has a shelf to each door although they are not all shown in the photos. For ease of moving and delivery this bookcase splits into 9 sections (cornice, cupboard top, plinth, left, centre & right top and base sections.
Condition
As you can see from the photographs this is in is in good condition considering its age (circa 1830). However, as should be expected, it does have some wear and tear and would benefit from a polish. There is a piece of moulding missing from the left side of the cornice at the breakfront and the centre door mouldings on the opening edges have been replaced. There are dents where the doors have been opened onto a key in the adjacent doors, minor veneer loss mainly to the plinth and screw holes to the sides. There is a tiny semi-circular crack at the very edge of one of the glazing panes and the previously mentioned missing escutcheon.
Please feel free to contact us if you require any further information or photos.
