William Dalglish 1857-1909 Oil Highland Scene
We are offering for sale this lovely oil on canvas by the Scottish artist WILLIAM DALGLISH, who has signed the painting in the lower left hand corner W. Dalglish. The painting depicts a view of a Scottish loch with a rain squall coming over the loch. The scene was probably painted in autumn due to the colouring of the trees and bracken.
WILLIAM DALGLISH 1857-1909, was a Scottish artist who was born in Glasgow and lived at 26 Renfield Street, Glasgow. He studied under Robert Greenleas at Glasgow School of Art and under A. D. Robertson who held a life class at his studio in Dundas Street.
He exhibited widely, with 60 paintings at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Art, Royal Scottish Academy 17, Royal Academy 1, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours 3, Royal Scottish Watercolour Society 6 and the New Watercolour Society.
His biographical details may be found in The Dictionary of Scottish Painters, The Dictionary of British Artists and The Dictionary of Victorian Painters by Christopher Wood. He is also mentioned in Graves Dictionary. Auction results for this artist are available at the usual sites.
The painting is framed in a very nice 3" gilt frame and is ready to hang.
