Subject Equine horse study portrait of a brown thoroughbred race horse facing right in full side profile, with known Jockey Mornington Cannon up above wearing racing colours of the owner Tom Worton. The horse is wearing its head reins & has saddle on, set in the countryside at Kempton Park in the Coronation Cup in 1897. The horse is in sublime peak racing condition.
The details is so incredible of the horse with the muscle definition and the brown hue colours along with the background lush green grass hues, with a mixed grey overcast sky above with areas of lighter blue shining through which are all so vibrant!

This painting is signed in the bottom corner by the known British sporting portrait artist Alfred Charles Havell.
Inscribed with horse's name & pedigree along with the date of the race on the inner gilt frame, also having an historical piece of racing history with a small lock of hair of Victor Wild tied with ribbon inside the glass cover showing the racing colours of the owner Tom Worton. In our opinion this is one of his finest historical works.
Artist Biography of Alfred Charles Havell a known British artist who was born in the Victorian era in London during the year of 1855. His father was Edmund Havell Junior who was known to have been Queen Victoria’s portraitist. He specialised in painting great sporting racehorse portrait scenes. Havell's works have been exhibited at gallery’s, museums like The National horseracing Museum, Weston Park & sold at auction houses like Sotheby’s worldwide with the current highest sold price being $36,000 US Dollars. The artist died in 1928.
1897 Coronation Cup at Kempton VICTOR WILD 85/40 owned by Tom Worton, trained by Joe Cannon and ridden by Mornington Cannon Victor Wild is a 1890 horse that was born in 1890. He was sired by Albert Victor out of the Remorse mare Wild Huntress. He won as a 2 year old at Brockhurst Plate, Portsmouth Park, Midland Nursary, Leicestershire. As a 3 year old won at Leicestershire, September Handicap, Hurst Park Club Cup. As a 4 year old won Royal Hunt Cup Ascott, Hurst Park Summer Handicap. As a 5 year old won Kempton Park Jubilee Handicap. Victor Wild was a course specialist at Kempton Park and in addition to the Coronation Cup win, won back-to-back Jubilee Stakes in 1895 and 1896. The colt also won the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot in 1894. The horse was trained by Joe Cannon at the Waltham House/Lethorne Stables in Lambourn.

He holds the records for the most wins by a jockey in the Craven Stakes, Coronation Stakes and Prince of Wales's Stakes. His most famous mount was Flying Fox who won the British Triple Crown in 1899. He was the son of English jockey and trainer Tom Cannon (1846–1917). In his day he was considered the most perfect master of style and he epitomised "the art of jockeyship.
1894-1902 Tom Worton, W T Garrett, W Hopkins Tom Worton, a very lucky owner who went on to train successfully in Lambourn for a number of years, built Waltham House and 20 box stables in 1894. His best horse, which made him a fortune, was Victor Wild, who won the 1894 Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot at 50/1, the Jubilee Stakes at Kempton in successive years in 1895 and 1896, and also won the Coronation Cup at Kempton in 1897. during this period he employed W T Garrett (1898-early 1900) and W Hopkins (1900) as his trainers. Many of Worton's horses, including Victor Wild, were trained by Hornsby, before he moved his horses to J Lowe at Ilsley. In January 1897 he moved Victor Wild to Joe Cannon in Newmarket, where the horse continued to notch up victories in valuable races. All the while Tom Worton was training a small string at Waltham House stables before moving to larger premises, selling Waltham House to J F Hallick.
Kempton Park Racecourse is a horse racing track venue in Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey, England, on the border with Greater London it is 13 miles west of Charing Cross in central London. The site has 210 acres (85 hectares) of flat grassland surrounded by woodland with two lakes in its centre. Its entrance borders Kempton Park railway station which was created for racegoers on a branch line from London Waterloo, via Clapham Junction. It has adjoining inner and outer courses for flat and National Hunt racing. Among its races, the King George VI Chase takes place on Boxing Day, a Grade 1 National Hunt chase which is open to horses aged four years or older. History The racecourse was the idea of 19th-century businessman and Conservative Partyagent S. H. Hyde, who was enjoying a carriage drive in the country with his wife in June 1870 when he came across Kempton Manor and Park for sale. Hyde leased the grounds as tenant in 1872 and six years later in July 1878 Kempton opened as a racecourse.
