A late 19th century Welsh milking stool, sycamore topped with ash legs. An intriguing oddity visible in the third picture is that the right hand leg is flat on the inside and flatish on the outside. The wood turner was in too much of a hurry to wait for the next lot of billets and so used the last one in the batch, wide enough but too narrow the other way to form the round leg. This is the kind of detail that shows a glimpse into the life of the man who made it, he was either self employed or working on piece work, so much a dozen. Either way time is money, got to get on. It is the kind of thing that takes me, as a restorer, straight back to stand next to him.
