Welsh Lovespoon Sugar Tongs c1890 Treen
A delightful pair of late 19thC Folk Art hand carved North Wales sugar tongs. Carved as love tokens and gifted in the same manner as love spoons. This particularly rare example features superb chip carving and pierced decoration including hearts. This stunning example is inset with glass panels - behind which the giftor could add the name of the lady who was to receive it. This one having the name Mrs Williams beautifully inked in calligraphy with the reverse side August 1903.
In outstanding condition and original throughout with superb colour.
Length 6.5" = 16cm
