Welsh Georgian oak hanging corner cupboard
This is Georgian solid oak hanging corner cupboard. The cupboard dates to around 1800 and is from North Wales. The design of the cupboard is typically Welsh from this period. Welsh antique furniture makers favoured this split pediment design on corner cupboards and also antique clock cases.
The corner cupboard is bow shaped with brass detailing to the pediment and the key escutcheons. The cornice has banded reeding decoration and there is a moulded leading edge to the base.
The cupboard is shelved with a plank back. All is original. The cupboard has its original lock and key. The lock doesn't work but the door shuts as it should. There is some old damage to the pediment - see photo.
This is a sweet cupboard and probably graced the wall of a Welsh Cottage for the last couple of hundreds of years.
It would look good in a cottage or a principal room furnished in period antique furniture. It would make a useful drinks cabinet.
The corner cupboard is 41 inches high and 16 inches deep and the sides run along the wall from the corner point for 17 inches on both sides.
