Wedgwood Majolica Tazza With Cherubs & Dolphins
Lovely large majolica tazza/comport by Wedgwood comprising an octagonal plate with a dark red brown ground with ribbed and raised swag decoration framing a a finely detailed scene of 3 putti or cherubs frolicking around a stylised dolphin sitting on a cloud. This central boss is in a green ground reminiscent of malachite carvings with lovely light and shade clearly showing the detail. Set on a pedestal base of 4 further dolphins with scrolls and garlands, all in the brown and green and with clear yellow and blue detail. The underside has the classic mottling and it has the impressed mark of WEDGWOOD and TOT dating to 1865.
It measures 15.2cm (6") high, 25.5cm (10") wide side to side and 27.5cm (10 3/4") wide across the diagonal. Condition is very good with no damage or restoration and light surface wear just a bit of rubbing to the glaze on the plate around the ribbed section. Payment is accepted by bank transfer, card payments (via an online invoice, I'm afraid we cannot take payments over the telephone), Paypal and UK personal cheque.
