Walnut Window Seat by James Shoolbred & Co.

A stylish and superb quality walnut window seat, with brass mouldings and baluster spindle gallery. Bears stamp to the rear of the eminent maker James Shoolbred & Co. with the number 3328.
Height (overall) 22″ (56cm) Height (seat) 14” (36cm) Width 25″ (63cm) Depth 17″ (43cm)
About Shoolbred:
James Shoolbred started his company in London in the 1820s, selling textiles, carpets and other items for interior decorating. In the 1870’s the company was designing and producing original, high-quality furniture, often inspired by the aesthetic qualities of E.W. Godwin’s architecture. Within another decade the company expanded and moved into a larger location in London, becoming one of the first department stores. The company was granted a Royal warrant by the mid-1880s and their furniture was among the highest quality available of the late Victorian period. Despite James Shoolbred & Co’s popularity and market presence, the company struggled after the market crash of 1929 and closed for good in 1931.
Condition and Details of Restoration:
This item is in original structural condition and is completely sound. The original polish has been revived and the brasswork cleaned, by our own craftsmen, by hand in the traditional manner.
