This is a neat Vintage Scottish Sterling Silver Salt Spoon from the 1980s. The spoon is in the shape of a miniature ladle with the slender stem flattening out to a rounded finial.
The salt spoon was made in Tobermory by the Isle of Mull Silver Company and assayed in Edinburgh in 1988. Founded by Philip Campbell in the early 1970s, the Isle of Mull Silver Company was part of the revival of Scottish silverware and silver antique jewellery that began in the 1960s and continues to the present day. Philip Campbell primarily made spoons and tableware but the company also produced some exquisite Celtic antique jewellery.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no salt corrosion and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The salt spoon is 5.8cm / 2.3ins long and weighs in at 2.6g / 0.09oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the inside rim of the bowl, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion rampant for Scottish Sterling Silver, the three towered castle assay mark for Edinburgh, the date letter O for 1988 and the P D A C makers' mark for Philip D A Campbell of the Isle of Mull Silver Company.
Shipping in the UK is £5 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
