Vincent Clare (1855-1930), Still Life of Primrose
This is a beautiful Victorian still life watercolour by British artist Vincent Clare depicting blossom and primrose flowers on a mossy bank. The painting is signed to the lower right and is framed its original oval gilt frame which suits it perfectly. The picture is a nice size measuring 55cms by 42cms overall, including the frame.
Vincent Clare was born in Birmingham in 1855. He was the son of George Clare and the brother of Oliver Clare, who were also prolific still life artists. For most of his life he lived in Southgate, London. He is known to have exhibited at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool between 1888 and 1897.
