Victorian Walnut Compactum Wardrobe by Maple & Co.

This beautiful compactum wardrobe dates from the late nineteenth century. It was retailed by Maple & Co. of London and retains its relailer's plaque on the inside of the wardrobe door. It is constructed from what we believe to be mainly solid walnut with burr walnut drawer fronts and panels, and camphor-wood lining to the wardrobe, cupboard and drawers. The piece consists of a wardrobe section on the left-hand side, with a mirrored door (damaged), which opens to revel a hanging rail with removable shelf above. On the other side is a bank of three long drawers with two smaller drawers above, and above this is a two-door partially glazed cupboard with a single removable shelf inside. All the doors and drawers retain their brass handles and working locks, and one key is present which works all locks. The piece is supported on a plinth base. Please note that the piece splits down into four for ease of transportation - the plinth base, the top cornice, the wardrobe section and the compactum section.
Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. The mirror of the wardrobe door has had some black paper stuck over the bottom part at some point, we believe because it is damaged here. This paper nibbled along the top edge. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. One drawer is missing its escutcheon. The backing panel of the wardrobe door has a wood shrinkage split.
The approx. measurements are as follows:
Overall - 215.5cm high, 164cm wide, 59cm deep (to maximums). Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
We can arrange delivery of both smaller items and furniture - please contact us for details and a quote. Customers are also welcome to use their own couriers if preferred.
Payment can be made by PayPal, bank transfer, cheque [UK only], and cash on collection.
