Circa 1860, very stylish Victorian two door cabinet bookcase, with unusual selected cross grained walnut. The bookcase has a classic shape with a rounded cornice, ogee moulding and a deep apron. The glazed doors have rounded corners at the top and inside are two large adjustable shelves with walnut facings. Beneath this is the flat surface and two drawers which are lined with felt and have ash lining which indicates that the bookcase is Scottish. There is a moulding on the bottom of the drawer which runs around the side of the bookcase, and small finger pulls beneath the drawer for ease of opening. Below the drawers are two cupboard doors with raised panels in the centre and arches in the corner similar to that of the top. These open to reveal one full size adjustable shelf. The whole piece stands on an enclosed plinth. This is an unusual cut of the timber which gives a nice mellow effect. Good size, good condition and sturdy.
