Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Victorian solid teak trunk campaign trunk, boasting the original rope carrying handles and brass mountings, circa 1850, in excellent original condition. Specialising in colonial campaign antique furniture, we have seen a number of campaign trunks in our years, and this is by far one of the best examples we have seen for a long time. The teak has been French polished by hand and the brass cleaned, in our workshop, to a professional standard. The trunk is constructed with a single plank flat top, with brass-bound corners and reeded edge, above a joined, brass-bound box. The original lid retains its original brass hinges. The interior is clean, dry and practical and usable. The interior also retains its original floorboards and backboards. The trunk also retains its original brass working lock (with key), as well as the original brass escutcheon. The sides incorporate what we believe to be are the original rope carrying handles.
The trunk stands on its original reeded plinth base, resting on simple sledge rails, designed so that it could be dragged if necessary. The back of the trunk retains its original panels along with the original floor.
Overall, this trunk boasts a lovely mellow, colour and patination, as well as traditional construction.
This antique teak trunk would look great in a variety of rooms from the hallway, to the living room or bedroom as a TV stand, coffee table, ottoman or blanket box at the foot of the bed etc.
This beautiful piece boasts a mellow colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
Condition Report:
