Victorian Silver Plate Fish Service For 12, c.1893

Here we have a fine quality Victorian Canteen of Fish Knives, Forks and Servers for 12 people in their original wooden case. The wooden case is beautifully made and lined with dark red satin and velvet. It has an inset brass cartouche on the lid with a presentation inscription to the Reverend George Chappell dated Feb 14th 1893. The individual pieces are ornately decorated on the stems and blades and have the initials GC elegantly engraved at the top of each stem.
The set is made in Sheffield by renowned silversmiths and electroplaters Cooper Brothers & Sons, who are particularly well known for their excellent quality cutlery and flatware.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and no significant plate loss, just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 225 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each knife is 20.8cm / 8.2ins long, each fork is 17.7cm / 6.9ins long, the fish slice is 30.8cm / 12.1ins long and the serving fork is 25cm / 9.8ins long. The full set including the wooden case weighs in at just over 2.8kg / 6lb 3oz.
Each piece is marked on the underside with EP for silver plate, C B S for Cooper Brothers & Sons of Sheffield and a registered design kite mark, showing that the design was originally registered in June 1870.
Shipping in the UK is £9 by Evri (Hermes) Tracked & Signed Courier.
