Victorian Silver Locket w/ Ivy & Stars, B'ham 1884
This is an attractive and romantic late Victorian Sterling Silver Locket. The front of the locket has an engraved design of ivy leaves surrounded by an oval ring of stars. For Victorians, ivy was a symbol of faithfulness and enduring love. The back of the locket is plain.
The locket was made in Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter by Robert James Dick and dates to 1884. R.J. Dick was a jeweller who is known to have operated throughout the 1880s and is best known for his lockets.
Condition is good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 135 years of good service. The hinge is in good working order and the locket shuts securely. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The oval locket is 4cm high, 2.8cm across and 0.8cm deep. It weighs 7.2g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the back of the locket are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the Gothic date letter k for 1884 and the R.J.D makers' mark for Robert James Dick.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
