This large oval silver antique locket and chain locket features an intricate hand engraved foliate motif surrounded by a scalloped inner border, with herringbone style outer border to the front, and foliate and pointed strapwork motif and the inscription "NJ 1884" to the reverse.

The lockets opens to reveal an inner photograph compartment with loose red silk backing. This large locket measures 57.5mm X 35mm.

The item is unmarked, but tests as silver.

The locket is suspended from a faceted ovoid link chain, 5.3mm wide and 44cm (17 inches) in length and has a 14.75mm diameter bolt ring fastener.

Total weight 34.7 gram.
