Victorian Silver Cuff Links, Yapp & Woodward, 1846
This is a very elegant set of Early Victorian Sterling Silver Cuff Links. The cuff links are oval with engine turned decoration and are joined by a single looped bar, the common form in the 19th century. They come supplied in a modern gift box.
The cuff links were made in Birmingham by Yapp & Woodward and date to 1846. Established by John Yapp and John Woodward in around 1845, the firm were jewellers and silversmiths who produced a wide range of items from flatware to cuff links and candlesticks to communion sets. They had a fairly short existence and appear to have ceased trading in the late 1850s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, securely fixed and with just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect to see after over 175 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each oval is 1.8cm by 1.3cm and each pair is 2.2cm wide. The set, unboxed, weighs in at 6.1g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, across the backs of each pair, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the Gothic date letter X for 1846, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the Y & W makers' mark for Yapp & Woodward.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
