George VI 9ct Gold Cuff Links, Birmingham, 1940
Here we have a stylish set of George VI 9ct Gold Cuff Links from the Second World War era. The chain linked cuff links are rectangular with chamfered corners and engine turned decoration on the front of each plate. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind. The cuff links come supplied in a modern gift box.
The cuff links were made in Birmingham by The Albion Chain Co and date to 1940, which is unusual as very little jewellery was made during WW2. Founded by Frank & Walter Hayes Rabone in around 1908, the company took its name from their premises in Albion Street, Birmingham. They registered marks in both Birmingham and Chester and primarily produced gold chains and cuff links. Around 1930 they became a division of S. Blanckensee & Son and remained in business, under their own name, up until around 1952.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each rectangular plate is 1.6cm by 1.1cm and each pair extends 2.5cm. The set weigh in at 5.5g of solid 9ct gold.
The hallmarks, on the backs of the plates, are well struck and clear to read. They show the 9 and .375 stamps for 9ct gold, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter Q for 1940 and the A C Co makers' mark for the Albion Chain Company.
Shipping in the UK is £9.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the cuff links.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
