Victorian Oak Extending Dining Table & 4 Leaves
A large Victorian wind-out extending dining table in golden quarter-sawn oak with four additional leaves and winding handle. The rectangular top with canted or cut corners and a double moulded edge, it stands on five substantial turned legs. This 47 5/8in wide table extends from just under 6ft to 12ft by means of a twin ‘screw expander’ winding mechanism and strong mahogany runners. Any number of the leaves can be used and the table will seat up to 14 people if using all four leaves.
With a warm golden colour and attractive ‘tiger grain’ pattern produced from the medullary rays revealed in the quarter-sawn cut of the oak, the top has been recently polished and waxed by hand using traditional materials and has had some restorations to the mouldings. This table offers slightly more legroom than most antique tables we have seen.
Extended Length - 12ft / 144in (365.5cm)
Closed Length - 72in (183cm)
Depth - 47 5/8in (121cm)
Height - 30.5in (77.5cm)
Legroom under frieze- 25 3/8in (64.5cm)
Legroom under inserted leaves - 28 7/8in (73.5cm)
Ref: 0670 Please appreciate all our items are antique and as such may have minor scratches, marks, knocks, shrinkage splits signs of old woodworm, and minor losses to veneer, which combine with care and years of polishing to create an individual character and patina.
