Victorian Oak Extending Dining Table & 4 Leaves
A super late Victorian wind-out extending dining table in quarter-sawn oak and made by Selbat. With a rectangular top with canted or cut corners and an ovolo moulded edge it stands on four turned and reeded tulip shaped legs with brass caps and rare wooden castors. This versatile table is a compact 3ft 6.87in deep x 5ft 5.37in long when closed but extends to a maximum length of 11ft 9.25in by means of a Joseph Fitter ‘screw expander’ winding mechanism and strong mahogany runners. Any number of the leaves can be used and the table will seat up to 14 people if using all four leaves.
With a good deep golden colour it has been recently polished and waxed by hand using traditional materials. Medullary rays from the quarter-sawn cut of the oak produce the attractive golden ‘tiger grain’ pattern. The wooden castors are very unusual to find and may be laburnum wood which is very hard. With maker’s label to the underside for ‘SELBAT DINING TABLES’ and stamped ‘B9017’ to the runners. There is a small area of repair to one edge of the top at an end.
Extended Length - 11ft 9.25in / 141.25in (359cm)
Closed Length - 65 3/8in (166cm)
Depth - 42 7/8in (109cm)
Height - 29.75in (75.5cm)
Legroom under frieze- 23in (58.5cm)
If extra legroom is required a set of wooden castor cup risers can be purchased separately.
Leaves - 20 3/8in, 20 3/8in, 19 3/4in and 15 1/4in (51.7cm, 51.7cm, 50cm and 38.7cm)
