Victorian Minton Sevres Style Dessert Plate
A pretty Minton shaped dessert plate in neoclassical style with their famous Sevres style celeste bleu ground inset with six cameos of classical god and goddesses in a sepia enamel. The border is sandwiched between two wide gilt bands with raised gilt Greek key pattern and in the centre is a classical arrangement of musical instruments within a laurel wreath.
A similar but more elaborate dessert service was displayed at the International Exhibition 1862 and this plate will have come from a service produced around that time inspired by but designed at a more accessible level. Impressed factory marks to the base, and the ermine mark painted along with pattern number G173 or G178.
It measures 23.3cm (9 3/16") and 2cm (3/4") high.
In excellent condition with no damage or repair and minimal handling wear. Payment is accepted by bank transfer, card payments (via an online invoice, I'm afraid we cannot take payments over the telephone), Paypal and UK personal cheque.
