Here is a fine quality antique English Victorian solid mahogany chaise longue, circa 1860, newly upholstered, which is in very good condition. The chaise features (when facing) a right-hand raised scroll arm and a down swept carved moulded frame, which incorporates a buttoned upholstered back, that terminates at the base of the swab cushion base. The chaise boasts a sweeping carved fascia to the front of the scroll arm, with a simple moulding to the frieze and a decorative pediment at the foot of the chaise, which secures the cushion in place. The chaise has been newly upholstered in top quality cream & pale gold silk damask upholstery, interspersed with a diamond pattern incorporating floral centres and finished with matching braiding. The chaise retains the original horsehair filled swab cushion, which has been finished with buttoning and piping, and a lovely bolster cushion, complete with ruched button ends.
The underside of the chaise has been traditionally re-webbed to ensure that the swab cushion does not sag. The chaise stands on its original turned baluster mahogany legs and boasts the original brass cups and castors. The up-swept arm and backrest are solid in joint.
This chaise radiates a rich mid brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. It is impossible to re-create this colour if it has been re-polished.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the living room or bedroom. The item would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional.
