A rare and attractive early Victorian mahogany extending writing table, circa 1840, of notably fine quality and very much in the manner of Gillows.

The table is beautifully constructed in rich mahogany and retains a deep, warm colour throughout.

It features two pull-out extension leaves, allowing it to extend with ease, making it equally suitable for use as a small dining table or centre table as well as a writing table.

The frieze is fitted with a central working drawer, flanked by dummy drawers to either side.

It stands on elegant reeded and turned legs, terminating in castors, allowing for easy movement.

The table is finished all around, enabling it to be freestanding in the centre of a room.

An unusual and versatile piece, in very good condition.
