Description:
This is a superb quality antique early Victorian mahogany butlers’ tray on a turned stand, circa 1850, in excellent original condition. This type of tray was used both on grand tours and campaigns, but also in wealthy houses for serving drinks. It boasts a top quality front-loading tray with shaped side carrying handles. As it is constructed with a single plank of top quality mahogany with a dovetail construction, this is a sign of superior quality, with a stunning colour & patination. The base is constructed of a single mahogany plank (another sign of quality). The tray sits on a very good quality turned mahogany-folding stand with a connecting ring-turned stretcher for added strength. What makes this an unusual and rarer example is the fact that it features an over-sized tray and the webbing straps to the stand are original.
This tray and table is a truly classic example from the early Victorian period. The level of detail and craftsmanship displayed second to none. It is rare to see an example, which not only is in excellent condition but also completely original.
The item features a mellow mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This truly is a very beautiful item with quality construction and is original throughout. It is rare to see one in such good condition.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the hallway to living or dining room. This item would certainly grace any home or office and a great investment, as they are an extremely functional. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of antique furniture.
Condition Report:

There are nominal old use marks to the leading edges and top but nothing significant considering the age of the item and years of use. There are no splits to the top either. The wooden tray and stand are both sturdy. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
