Here is a stunning quality English Victorian amboynas & ebonised aesthetic upholstered couch, circa 1880, in excellent condition, from the aesthetic movement. Incorporating an arched central back, the couch features a mahogany frame that has been ebonized and inlaid with gild and amboyna wood. The frame incorporates geometric and floral scribe carvings. The couch has been newly upholstered in top quality cream & gold embossed silk damask material, finished with a matching colour braiding and a hessian underside. The sprung seat is firm but comfortable it does not sag. The couch features a stunning deep buttoned back, which is connected to the curved arms. The arms feature gilt cartouches below a splayed fluted lower section, again inlaid with gilt and veneered amboyna wood. The couch features a lovely amboynas bow shaped frieze that is connected to tapering fluted legs. The couch stands on its original mug castors above beaded collars with shaped back legs (a sign of quality).

This couch is in excellent condition. It has been newly upholstered therefore the upholstery is in excellent condition (clean and no signs of wear, tear or damage). As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. The carved frame and arms are also in excellent condition with no splits or lose joints. Furthermore, all carving is complete and not damaged. The backs and arms are solid. The couch stands on its original castors. This item is solid in joint, does not wobble and is ready to use.
