Victorian Mahogany-Framed Chaise Longue
This attractive chaise dates from c.1860-1870. It has a mahogany frame with a button-backed back rest and a removable base cushion. The chaise is supported on turned bluster legs. The frame is only finished to one side, suggesting that it was designed to sit against a wall. The chaise has a nice style and shape, but would benefit from reupholstery and repolishing. The upholstery is not original. The chaise has a long bolster cushion which we believe to be a later addition.
Condition: Overall this is an attractive piece, but would benefit from being reupholstered and repolished. The frame is scuffed, discoloured and worn and has some areas of relatively minor wood loss. It is solid with only minimal movement in the joints. There may be a strip of veneer missing from the back of the frame. The upholstery is dated, grubby and worn and has some areas of fraying. The braiding is partially detached along one side.
