Victorian Japanned Embroidery Sewing Frame
An unusual and highly decorative Victorian japanned embroidery frame with beautiful hand painted flowers, leaves and gilt scrolls. This 19th Century frame is in remarkably good condition, there is slight evidence of wear to paint on the base and some indication of very minor early woodworm. This has been thoroughly treated for peace of mind. As can be seen in the photographs, these imperfections are not easily visible and in not way detract from this unusual object.
In the 19th Century when needlework was a major pastime for ladies, a fine frame of this quality and decorative standard would have been the property of a lady of substance. A rare survivor of a more gentle age.
