Victorian Half Peck Dry Measure
A particularly nice example, this Victorian 'Half Peck' pot.
It has all the appropriate markings clearly showing:
The V and R either side of the crown denote Victoria Regina
Weights & measures office A78
Unique Verification Number 90
City markings _ City Of Manchester
Clearly showing '1/2 Peck'
Beautifully made lap construction using period, hand made nails.
History:
A peck is an imperial and United States dry volume measure.
It equates to 2 dry gallons or 8 dry quarts or 16 dry pints.
An imperial peck is equivalent to 9.09 liters and a US peck is equivalent to 8.81 liters.
Two pecks make a kenning, and four pecks make a bushel.
Some of us will recall the old nursery rhyme "Peter Piper" (picked a peck...)
The other reference most widely known, in the Bible Matthew 5:15 there is reference to a bushel (four pecks)
These pots make an excellent display for kitchen utensils, paint brushes or dried flowers.
Postage is included with this item. (UK Mainland)
